ABOUT DARREN

CULTURAL HERITAGE:

Decendant of the Wiradjuri and Koori tribes New South Wales.

Born in NSW, Darren came to Western Australia in the early seventies where he lived in the Goldfields of Kalgoorlie Boulder and worked as a prospecting assistant to his father. He then moved to Perth in the late nineties.

Darren has been interested in painting and creating art from a young age, but it wasn't until a few years ago that his interest in painting moved to a side interest to his primary focus. In 2009 Darren began studying at Challenger Tafe in Rockingham and now holds a Certificate III and IV in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Arts. He also won the Student of the Year in an Aboriginal Program for the entire Perth / Mandurah region.

Darren has exhibited at a number of venues across WA, including the Fremantle Art Centre, Bunbury Art Centre, Rockingham Art Centre and the Gary Holland Centre. He also exhibited at the Noongar Country Art Awards. He recently collaborated with Jon Denaro to build sculptures for the City of Rockingham. Darren has also completed sculptures for public art commissions for the City of Cockburn.

Darren's work is abstract and explores various geological themes. He draws inspiration from his years spent travelling and paints from memory and his cultural history.

Darren's work can be found at redbubble.com and at Kidogo Arthouse Gallery.
