ANNOUNCING THE 2009 STUDENT EXHIBITION FROM THE AUSTRALIAN SCHOOL OF FINE WOOD.

Each year the graduating students of the Australian School of Fine Wood in Dwellingup showcase their range of new and innovative fine furniture pieces. This year’s exhibition is titled “TOOLBAGS AND APRONS-An Exposé of Fine Furniture.” It will be presented at Kidogo Art House in Fremantle between the 11th and the 15th of December 2009.

The Australian School of Fine Wood is a renowned centre of excellence, enabling students to produce a wide and varied range of fine wood products and furniture items. Of the five students that will graduate this year, three are women. In a field normally dominated by men these three women; Brianna Russell, Megan Christie and Tracey Laird took out 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively in the tertiary student section at the recent “Out of the Woods” competition held at the Perth Wood Show.

The school maintains its excellent teaching standards by enlisting the talents of some of Australia’s finest crafts people with its Artist in Residence Program. Artists this year include Peter Cook from Scarab Studio Wood, Tasmanian craftsman Toby Muir-Wilson and David Upfill-Brown, who will be guiding the students through their final furniture piece and exhibition .The school curriculum is co-ordinated and run by perhaps Australia’s foremost wood working couple, Neil and Pam Erasmus.

All fundraising for and the co-ordination of the exhibition is enacted by the second year students themselves. Any assistance with publicity and promotion of the event would be greatly appreciated.
