We would warmly like to invite you to the opening of In Our View... - an exhibition of fantastic photography from the students of the Certificate III in Design Fundamentals here at Kidogo Arthouse Galleries in Fremantle.

During a brilliant class taught by professional photographer Chris Gosfield based on Robert Berdan’s COMPOSITION & the ELEMENTS of VISUAL DESIGN, the students were asked to take interesting photographs in and around Kidogo Arthouse and Bather’s Beach. The images they came back with at the end of the day were so striking that Joanna Robertson, Director of Kidogo Arthouse Galleries, and Sandy Adams, primary lecturer of the Cert III Design Fundamentals Course decided to arrange an exhibition of the images. The exhibition has been organised by the students (with the help and supervision of Sandy Adams and Kidogo staff), and the photographs will all be for sale, all money going to the students themselves.

Not only will this be an exciting and beautiful exhibition, it will also help to build up the confidence of these new artists, who all later want to go on to study further and pursue careers in the arts. For the majority, this will be their first exhibition.

The photos in the exhibition are primarily of Fremantle and Perth, but the students also took photos in other locations and of other subjects. The major themes they explored based on Robert Bergan’s categorisation of images were portraiture, line, shape, form, rhythm, texture, and balance. The students then uploaded their photos to a Facebook group where they were viewed and commented on by their peers and tutors. This use of social networking sites helped to engage the students and get them involved in the project. The students will also hang the exhibition themselves as a part of the Certified course they are studying.

The opening night will be on Tuesday 11th May at 7pm. The opening speeches will be at 7.15pm prompt. Feel free to bring along friends and family.

The exhibition opens on Sunday 9th May and will run until Tuesday 25th May.

An article about the exhibition will be featured in the Community Gazette (Fremantle) next Tuesday 11th.
