Exhibition caps off a remarkable year for Aboriginal students at Kidogo
Kidogo Art Institute’s annual student exhibition will feature a diverse array of works from Aboriginal artists studying at Kidogo in 2010.
As well as studying a Certificate III in Visual Arts course at the Institute, these artists have had an extraordinarily busy and successful year, including:
• Artist Ella Taylor won the Acquisitive Perth Airport Prize for Aboriginal Art at the City of Belmont Art & Photography Exhibition.
• Artists David Prior (Krocette) and Yungalily were Highly Commended at the City of Belmont Art & Photography Exhibition.
• David Prior was named the 2010 Perth Airport Emerging Artist at the City of Belmont Art & Photography Exhibition.
• Several students entered art awards including the Respect Yourself/Respect Your Culture Nyoongar Art Awards and the Swan Art Awards.
• Successful group shows at Kidogo Art Institute (Moorditch Mob) and Fremantle Art Centre (Wardarnji Festival).
“Our annual student show is a wonderful opportunity to view the work of some truly talented emerging Aboriginal artists and celebrate their achievements, “ said Joanna Robertson, Director Kidogo Art Institute.
“It’s also a rare chance to hear directly from the artists about their culture, experiences and the stories that inspire their work.”
The exhibition also features work from student's studying on our Adult Short Courses at Kidogo Art Institute.
The exhibition opens this Thursday, 16 December at 6.30pm at the Kidogo Arthouse, Bathers Beach, Mews Road Fremantle and will close on 13 January 2011. Entry is free.
