ABOUT JOHN:
CULTURAL HERITAGE:
Aboriginal GrandparentsBACKGROUND:
John used to be a Cray fisherman in Geraldton, only recently taking up painting. He left school at 14 and worked on the boats until he was 22 when he was involved in an accident which caused him to be confined to a wheelchair. John has always loved the water and hopes to depict it in paintings in the future.
In the quadriplegic centre where he stays, he recently began painting and drawing, deciding to enroll in the course at Kidogo Art Institute to learn the necessary skills required to become an artist. He used to copy other paintings, but he is finding that the more he paints, the more he is expressing himself. In the second week of the course, John completed his first painting drawn from his own mind and went on to complete another, he exhibited the two paintings in the ‘Living Our Dreams’ exhibition at the Fremantle Arts Centre 2011
